good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. now ,it's my turn. my name is edgar, a high school student. i am very honored to be here to give you a speech. also it's a good chance for me to improve my english. i hope i can make a good performance today. the topic of my speech is "after studying here".

before i came here,i can never imagine that i can learn so much knowledge about other countries, which can't be got from my books in school. three months ago, i took my first class. unfortunately, i felt so embarrassed, because i even can't speak any words, though i know i really love english .

after that, i took some of my tutor's advice and previewed the lesson that i’ll learn. what’s more, in every class, i just try my best to say as much as possible. now,i can only remember it's a really hard time. what’s worse, i had to go to my high school and went there at the same time.

after several weeks, i began to get used to the atmosphere in web .at least i'm not afraid to speak in front of my tutor and foreign teachers.

during web’s period,i found i had improved a lot, both physically and mentally. for example, how to be a confident person, how to plan for my future. and the most important is that i have learnt how to communicate with others, which is a necessary skill. nowadays studying is not the only thing that we high school students should do, there are some more important things we have ignored.

first, i am grateful for my parents. they have spent so much money for me, but never ask for anything in return. i really know how hard it is to work on such living conditions.

now it's time to introduce my tutor sally. it was she that led me to the right studying here. it was she that helped me deal with all kinds of annoying things. also there are some other teachers that i appreciate, especially laura and anita. of course, i like to take foreign teachers' classes. anyway, thanks all of you!

i know i am young; there is a long way in my life. i have to face the difficulties and solve them by myself. but i know i must keep on my dream, i agree that if you put your mind to, you can accomplish anything.

with respect to my future, i want to be a mechanical engineer. i have a very great passion for mechanical engineering that has developed since childhood .i have grown interest in this area of engineering after a long intervention with my cousin who did his job in mechanical engineering presently . diversity is a major issue that arises when mechanical engineering is considered .i have learnt from my cousin that being a mechanical engineer qualifies you to work in quite many different areas .this fact really builds up my interest in this area since i will be able to exercise my diverse dimensions of viewing and doing things, which is strength in. i have been dreaming of careers whereby i can be able to experience my freedom through exercising and expressing my views and innovations .mechanical engineers are constantly being asked to make decisions. the size, shape, and material of every part of every mechanical product created must be decided by a mechanical engineer. they also have to determine the best and most efficient ways to manufacture the products. as to me, if i want to be a mechanical engineer, i have to know more about mechanical.

but what should we do at university and what major should we learned .

at the university level, mechanical engineering majors can expect to learn advanced mathematics, calculus, chemistry, and physics. after some of these core courses, mechanical engineering majors take specialized courses in:

fluid dynamics

materials science

manufacturing processes

thermodynamics and heat transfer

environmental science

we will also take advanced computer classes that deal with design. such as, solidworks, ug and autocad.

time spent at a university is a most worthwhile period in a young person's life. this is a time when a student begins to form his or her ideas about life in general. attending classes and studying in the library keep a student busy and provide him or her with access to valuable information, adding to his or her knowledge base. campus life can also be rich and colorful. most universities offer a variety of extracurricular activities such as sports events, contests, and other social gatherings, enabling the students to experience relief from study and homework. students often form lifelong friendships through the varied experiences of university life.

during the time a student spends at university, he not only develops his intelligence, he also develops social skills as well as knowledge and wisdom necessary for choosing a future career. by learning how to balance intense study and recreation, a student will be well prepared for the challenges of future responsibilities. different people have different lifestyles. in the three years during my college life, i feel that what i have done is only just so-so. my major score is just so-so too. so the last year, i don’t want to a so-so life. in the next coming year, i don’t want to graduate, i want to take part in the entrance exams for postgraduate school. so everyday i spend much time reading in the library, i feel everyday is colorful. i believe that as long as working hard and don’t give up, my postgraduate dream will come ture.

in my opinion, i do agree with american teenagers’ action. we should learn from them to follow the ideas of ourselves when we deal with things. if we listen to our patents’s guiding, we may get things right now but later they are proved to be wrong. because with the rapid change of our society, their view may be new in their times but is old in our times ,their advice may let us get into wrong direction. what’s more, to do things with our own ideas is important to get a feeling of succes when the result is right as well as to get experience and learn from it when the result is wrong. we can get more benefits if we follow our own ideas rather than our parents’.

in the end ,i want to say that although our parents have much rich experience we don’t have, they may give some wrong ideas to us for their view may be out of date. so,with part of their advice,it’s better for us to do things as we think so.
